In Nidri you can find many daily cruises boats. You can use them to visit various spots in Lefkas and the nearby islands of Ithaki (Fiskardo village) and Kefalonia (Kioni village). If you plan to visit this islands, do not attempt to go there with your speedboat. This tip reflects my personal opinion and I establish it in the Nautical Info Pages. |

Another reason for using a daily cruise boat is that during the cruise you will learn interesting details about the famous Greek tycoon Onassis, his family and his private island Scorpios and about the story ownership of all the other islets in Nidri bay. Note that you can visit all the spots visited by the cruises with your private boat or by car (with the exception of Kefalonia and Ithaki). |
All the boats visit the famous beach Porto Katsiki in the west side of the island. For your convenience choose a boat that approach on the beach instead of them that let you jump in the water directly from the vessel. The reason is that the orientation of Porto Katsiki bay is directly to Ionian Sea located and there are always waves even if there is no wind at all. So you can easily get dizzy during the stay of the boat in the bay.
We were lucky. Originally we chose one "Athina" boat, one of the main competitors in the daily cruises area (the other one is "Nidri Star I"). The captain stated we wouldn't approach the beach and that the we had to jump directly of the vessel into the sea and this sounded originally a good idea to me.
The other day we boarded on a smaller boat instead, the "Alexandros K". It seems that both boats have created a type of joined venture and they cruised every other day exchanging customers. The captain of "Alexandros K" told us that they would drop us on the beach.
So, while we enjoyed the blue waters of Porto Katsiki lying on the beach I noticed the waves swinging the vessel of "Nidri Star I" (that had arrived in the meantime) and I thought that I wouldn't like to be a passenger on it.
