Excursions and beaches by car
The best beaches of Lefkas are located in the west coast in the Ionian Sea (Kathisma, Kalamitsi, Porto Kastiki to mention some of them). All of them have unbelievable blue colors but they are deep and the sea is sometimes rough because they are oriented towards the open sea. But if the sea is calm they are really magical. Avoid visiting them with your boat, use your car instead ( you can find more info about this suggestion in the nautical info pages).
We visited Kathisma, Pefkoulia and Porto Katsiki. We visited the last one during our daily cruise this year (2004) and using our boat last year (2003). In the nautical info pages there are more details about our 2003 trip to Porto Katsiki with our boat. This particular trip is one of the 3-4 silliest undertakings I have ever made during the 10 years as a speedboat owner.

Kathisma is an organized beach near Agios Nikitas. It's really huge and gets never crowded no matter how many people visit it. There is a beach bar ("Kopla") that plays loud and disturbing music but you can easily avoid it (just move to another part of the beach, it's really huge). On the other side, Kopla has a swimming pool and if the sea is rough and windy you can stay there and enjoy your drink while the kids play in the pool. |

Pefkoulia is another huge beach (also near Agios Nikitas). Less organized than Kathisma but it's waters are also marvelous. |

I strongly suggest you to visit Agios Nikitas after your bath and have an afternoon drink or coffee in the two bars on the beach. It's really worth it. |

A windy day or a day that you are not in a mood for a boat trip, you can visit Mikros Gialos beach near the village of Poros. It's located in the south side of the island, just 10 minutes of Nidri (by car). The quality of the water is good (specially if the winds are blowing from northern directions). |

A nice night car excursion is to the village of Karia, located in the mountains of the island. The village has a nice central square with huge plane trees. We had dinner there in a nice tavern named "Klimataria".
Please note that I haven't visited the village and the beach of Vasiliki (which a famous windsurfing spot) and I can't express any opinions about the place.
