Accommodation

Nidriί

The area of Nidri is ideal. It's near to all nautical destinations, has very good tourist infrastructures and a lot of tourists visit it during the summer. Nidri is located in a gulf, protected from winds and sea surge and its harbor has very good infrastructures. You can find more about Nidri harbor in the nautical info pages.

City of Lefkas, Ligia and Nikiana aren't worth it and they are far from all nautical destinations. We stayed in Perigiali (1 km from Nidri). Perigiali is a quiet place (Nidri gets very-very crowded during the summer) but on the other side you can reach Nidri's life in 2 minutes (by car) or 15 minutes (by foot).

Both years we chose "Dimosthenis Apartments". Vangelis and Eleftheria (the owners) are very friendly and we became close friends with them. The rooms are nice and clean and the garden and sod are marvelous.

The rooms complex is very near the sea. In order to reach the sea you have to walk about 30 metes through a field full of trees (you don't have to cross any road). The ground floor rooms don't have any sea view (because of the trees I mentioned earlier) but we preferred them because we wanted the kids to have direct access to the garden. If you prefer sea view you can choose the 1st and 2nd floor rooms which have marvelous view towards Nidri gulf and it's islets.

I moored our boat in the tiny beach in front of the complex and I parked the boat trailer in the frontage. Of course, Vangelis helped me with his truck to launch the boat in and out of the water (that wasn't really necessary, Nidri harbor has a very good boat slide as I mention in the nautical info pages) and there was a plentitude fresh water available in order to wash the desperate for fresh water boat before our departure for Athens.

I also have to mention that there is a gas station and a mini market just 50 meters away from the complex.

The only downside is the quality of the sea water in front of the complex, a problem that is common to all east beaches of Lefkas (from City of Lefkas to Nidri). You can swim of course but (for the standards of a Greek) it isn't worth it. Foreign tourists on the other side seemed to enjoy it. Anyway, we didn't care much about it because we used our boat to visit a different beach every day.

On the other side, you can enjoy the beach in front of the complex during the nights, watching the full moon and the lights from Nidri reflect on the deadly calm sea water. Marvelous !!!

Two more details about Nidri :

The central road of Nidri has heavy traffic during the summer, so do not try to park on it, especially in the night. The place is full of free parkings (signs pointing to the parkings are all over the place)
For the same reason, avoid using the central road if you want to cross Nidri. There is a ring road but unfortunately there isn't any sign for it at all (!!!) and it's impossible to locate it for your selves. I suppose that the local authorities avoid to hang any signs pointing to the ring road because they want to route all the traffic through the central road in order to support the local economy (!!!). Anyway, entering Nidri from the City of Lefkas you will cross a tiny bridge with yellow-black rail. Immediately after the bridge turn right in the small road beside the stream and after a few hundred meters you will meet the ring road.
